Ceramic Altars & Tarot: A Ritual Guided Workshop Feb 19th at 7pm-9.30pm
As the season turns, join artist Amelia Foster and professional tarot card reader Charles Gryor Derupe for a warming evening of hand-building altars to honor a message brought to you from the cards on February 19th. With Pisces Season upon us, it’s a time of intuition and boundless creativity to sow the seeds of what you want to bloom in the warmer months.
In this intimate, exploratory workshop, you will receive a bespoke tarot card reading to focus the direction of your creation. You’ll materialize your interpretation of the message into a clay sculpture that speaks to you. We encourage you to let your imagination and intuition take hold of your creation - there is no right or wrong way to create your sculpture.
This workshop welcomes all experience levels and emphasizes process, intuition, and experimentation.
In this workshop, you will:
Receive a personalized one card reading from your inquiry or an open interpretation from the cards
Learn essential hand-building techniques, including slab building, pinching, and coil rolling
Understand how to create strong, lasting joints
Use provided tools and materials to develop surface texture and ornamentation
Explore altar-making as both a functional and sculptural practice
All materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring small objects, images, or references to draw inspiration from.
What you’ll take home:
A working understanding of slab construction, coil building, and joint-making techniques
Your own ceramic altar, glazed and fired
A voice recording of the interpretation of your tarot card pull
Please note: Finished altars will be ready for pickup approximately 4 weeks after the workshop. You will receive an email notification when your piece is ready.
Tickets are non-refundable. Rescheduling is only possible up to one week before the class. If you’re unable to attend, you’re always welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else, just let us know!
