Join artist Amelia Foster for an afternoon of hand-building ceramic mirror frames.
In this intimate, exploratory workshop, participants will learn foundational ceramic hand-building techniques using slab and coil methods to create ornate, functional mirrors to hang on the wall or set on your desk. The focus will be on structure and expression, guiding you to build forms that are durable, personal, rich with texture, and that take shrinkage into account. Participants will be welcomed with a warming beverage as they settle into their ceramic flow.
This workshop welcomes all experience levels and emphasizes process, intuition, and experimentation.
In this workshop, you will:
Learn essential hand-building techniques
Understand how to create strong, lasting joints
Use provided tools and materials to develop surface texture and ornamentation
Learn about clay shrinkage and calculation
Explore ceramic techniques as both functional and decorative
All materials will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring small objects, images, or references to draw inspiration from.
What you’ll take home:
A working understanding of slab construction, coil building, and joint-making techniques
Your own ceramic mirror, glazed and fired with a mirror inside
Please note: Finished mirror frames will be ready for pickup approximately 4 -5 weeks after the workshop. You will receive an email notification when your piece is ready.
Glaze Options;
If you choose to use one of our standard glazes (clear,white or black) or no glaze the cost is $90/ per person class
If you would like to use a special glaze (during the class you can see the options and decide also) and prefer to glaze your own work, the cost will be $110/per person.
