Sculptural Candelabras in Clay Jan 24th at 3pm-6pm
As the year turns, join artist Amelia Foster for a warming evening of hand-building sculptural ceramic candelabras; objects designed to hold light through the darkest months and gesture toward the coming spring.
In this intimate, exploratory workshop, participants will learn foundational ceramic hand-building techniques using a combination of slab and coil methods to create ornate, functional candelabras. The focus will be on both structure and expression, guiding you to build forms that are durable, personal, and rich with texture. Participants will be welcomed with a warming beverage as they settle into their ceramic flow.
This workshop welcomes all experience levels and emphasizes process, intuition, and experimentation.
In this workshop, you will:
Learn essential hand-building techniques, including slab building, pinching, and coil rolling
Understand how to create strong, lasting joints
Use provided tools and materials to develop surface texture and ornamentation
Explore candelabra-making as both a functional and sculptural practice
All materials will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring small objects, images, or references to draw inspiration from.
What you’ll take home:
A working understanding of slab construction, coil building, and joint-making techniques
Your own ceramic candelabra, glazed and fired
Please note: Finished candelabras will be ready for pickup approximately 4 weeks after the workshop. You will receive an email notification when your piece is ready.
